Philippe Melka is one of the wine world’s most distinguished winemakers, Philippe has been based in the Napa Valley for the last fifteen years,
and joined Davis Estates in 2011 as our consulting winemaker for our prestigious Phase V.
This strikingly classic 2014 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon has intense red color and aromatics of concentrated blueberry, mulberries, dark cherry and black currants. Nuances of tobacco, oak and cedar add a delicate complexity to the nose. In the mouth, this Cabernet is juicy, with touches of vanilla and dark fruit. It is vibrant and velvety, full bodied with refined tannins, balanced acidity and a long finish. This Cabernet presents exquisitely now, or can age for years to come.
The 2014 Phase V Petite Sirah is a beautiful deep purple color with a violet fringe. There are notes of tobacco, cigar box, blueberry, graphite and a touch of black pepper on the nose. The palate hints at sweetness and is rich with bacon, vanilla and blackberry. The full-bodied mouth feel is soft and silky with well-integrated tannins that linger gracefully and lead to a long juicy finish. This Petite Sirah is showing splendidly but has a lot more to give and will age exquisitely for many years.

The 2016 Phase V Petite Sirah is a classic example of an under-the-radar varietal. The color is a dense, deep, dark plum approaching inky. Aromas of currant, huckleberry, tobacco, and sweet vanilla awaken the senses. The palate comes alive with the ripe flavors of blueberries and blackberries, truffles, and a subtle hint of bacon! The firm tannin structure and vibrant acidity of the Phase V Petite Sirah will enable this wine to continue to evolve for years to come.
